A rich and indulgent lasagna loaded with cheese, meat, and a creamy sauce, perfect for special occasions.

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 (6 oz) cans tomato paste
  • 2 (8 oz) cans tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 16 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 pound mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Brown ground beef, sausage, onion, and garlic in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, water, sugar, basil, fennel, Italian seasoning, pepper, and parsley. Simmer for 30 minutes.
  4. Cook lasagna noodles in boiling water for 8-10 minutes, then drain.
  5. Mix ricotta cheese, egg, and nutmeg in a bowl.
  6. Layer noodles, meat sauce, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella in a 9×13-inch baking dish. Repeat layers.
  7. Top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.
  8. Bake for 25 minutes covered, then uncover and bake for another 25 minutes.
  9. Let rest for 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use whole milk ricotta for a creamier texture.
  • Let the lasagna rest before cutting for cleaner slices.
  • Can be assembled a day ahead and baked when needed.
