A simple and delicious slow cooker recipe for French onion roast that requires minimal effort.

Ingredients

  • 3 lbs beef chuck roast
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 packet French onion soup mix
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the roast on all sides until browned.
  2. Place the sliced onions in the bottom of the slow cooker.
  3. Add the seared roast on top of the onions.
  4. In a bowl, mix the French onion soup mix, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and black pepper. Pour over the roast.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4-5 hours.
  6. Shred the meat with forks and serve with the onions and juices.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a splash of red wine to the broth mixture.
  • Serve over mashed potatoes or crusty bread.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
